There are Sport England offices in
each region of England:Whilst recognising local differences
and priorities Sport England have a national framework for sport which will
be largely delivered through the regions with a focus on delivering outcomes.
Given the differences in size, geography and socio-economic factors across
the regions, a one-size-fits-all approach has not been imposed.

Regional offices of Sport England
have an executive role with a remit to:
- Provide the expertise that supports development
of the regional strategy, investment policy and sports plan
- Advise upon and/or make funding decisions
- Implement the regional sports plan, in conjunction
with regional stakeholders and investment partners
- Feedback best practice and lessons learned to
the support centre (via the director of partnerships and investment)
Sport England is here to
facilitate, not to dictate. Power and decision-making is being devolved
to our nine regions, who are better placed to manage funds at a local level.

Regional Sports Boards
Each regional director of Sport
England works closely with a regional sports board (RSB). The RSBs reflect
the Government's desire to see greater decision-making taking place regionally.
As committees of the English Sports Council main board, with delegated powers
and funds, they exist to:
- Develop a regional strategy and investment policy,
highlighting specific local priorities
- Prepare, refine and review rolling sports plans
to deliver the regional strategy
- Decide upon the allocation of regional resources
- Oversee implementation through their regional
office
- Build strong, appropriate relationships with
regional government, assemblies, cultural consortia, and RDAs to champion
the value of sport to local communities
- Contribute to and inform Sport England's national
policy through a consultation mechanism with all boards and through input
from the 3 RSB chairs serving on the main board
RSB chairs are appointed by DCMS
and accountable to the English Sports Council main board.

Regional Federations of Sport
In each
region, co-incident with the Sport England regional boundaries, there is
a Regional federation of Sport, which comprises the regional and county
governing bodies of sport and the District & Local Sports Councils in
the region. These Regional Federations are independent voluntary bodies
affiliated to the CCPR.
